Hi,

What an exciting weekend it was for me! I bought a new car and overcame a lot of my own old fear all at the same time!  It has been a few years since I went through this process, and the last experience was not so pleasant (if you know what I mean!). I was dreading sitting in “the chair” and going into the finance office with “that man.” I had researched my car (actually my sweetheart had done a wonderful extensive search) and I came armed with some great “ammo” (information), my warrior attitude... and a determination to get the price I wanted and not cave into the car salesman pressure.

My strategy worked like this-I patiently spoke my truth and said what I needed to- to the salesman Jerry, breathed deeply throughout the process, kept my thinking and listening clear and my energy up with snacks and water and continually reassured myself with positive self talk that we were doing great asking for, NO insisting on what we wanted. The very strategies I coach my clients to do in stressful situations where your fear comes up, negotiating or confronting people with what you want.

ConvertibleWell I am proud to say I got my price and did a fantastic job of it (I do say so myself). I practiced the very tools I teach my clients of how to overcome any phobia or fear... and it worked!!! Coach healed thyself! Did you guess what car I got? FEAR THIS: Simple Steps to Master Your Emotions for Good!

As a behavior specialist and coach I know first hand that fear and phobias drastically affect many people every day. According to Wikipedia (a great online resource) “Fear is a powerful, unpleasant feeling of risk or danger, either real or imagined.” Now we can describe fear by many different terms in accordance with its relative degrees; personal fear varies extremely in degree from mild caution to extreme phobia and paranoia.

FearWhat I have seen working with my clients over the past 17 years, is that fear is related to a number of emotional states including worry, anxiety, terror, fright, paranoia, horror, panic (social and personal), persecution complex and dread. I have some powerful tools and strategies I teach my clients to either work with and/or manage their fear and negative emotions, or eliminate it completely. Is this something you would benefit from? The first step to your personal growth with anything you want to change is: Awareness and acknowledgement- here it would be of your fear and the stimulus (that which triggers your emotion) of that emotion. You can do this by:

Beginning to understand yourself and your emotions and your past contributing factors. You can try o do this by yourself by writing, journaling or taking some personal time to explore this on your own, however many people need a trained coach/therapist to ask the specific questions to trigger your memory and the process of deeper exploration, discovery and healing. This will help you understand yourself, thus heal your fear and any accompanying behaviors that are affecting your life. I use some alternative techniques that instantly help speed this process. Also here are some quick simple techniques you can use in the moment of fear that you can also practice:

Calm yourself• Take some time-out to calm yourself, even remove yourself from the stimulus or environment if possible- to get some space and room to take care of yourself. Remember the saying “When emotion is high, intelligence is low!”

• Talk yourself out of your emotions- I teach clients in our coaching sessions an emotional management technique called EMTTM that instantly helps you with your emotions. I also have a home study version included in my Are You Stressed product available ORDER here.

• Breathe: focus on your breath-this physiologically lowers your blood pressure and reduces other stress related symptoms. Also, clears your mind and helps you think more rationally about how to take care of yourself the best.

Focus on the Positive• Distract yourself from negative emotions or thoughts, focus on something positive. When we substitute a negative stimulus with a positive one, we can often change our mind and bodies cognitive and physiological response to it as well. I teach my clients to do this with both hypnosis and other more advanced techniques with amazing results.

Dear Seeking Answers:
I am here to help you! According to the Law of Attraction, what ever you focus on consciously or unconsciously you attract. I would have you look at what you feel you deserve or not deserve and what is unfinished in your life. What you may be doing is thinking/feeling you are undeserving and also you may be repeating a pattern from your childhood- where you couldn’t set boundaries or speak up for what you deserved.

Also, business-wise what I would suggest is creating a client contract and business policy form for your clients to sign and also make your clients pay with retainer up front. Give me a call so I can work with you on your self-esteem, confidence and communications skills as well.
